Simon Clews is the Director of the Writing Centre for Scholars and Researchers. Before taking on this role, he was the Festival Director and CEO of The Age Melbourne Writers' Festival, and its sister event Writers at Como, for fourteen years. Simon was also the Artistic Director of Stories Alive, an annual celebration of writing for children. Simon is Creative Program Director for Melbourne's Writers at the Convent.
He is an occasional book reviewer and writer of articles and once even ventured into the world of guidebooks with Let's Go Shopping , a tongue-in-cheek international mail order shopping directory. His background is originally in theatre, having worked in the UK with Triple Action Theatre and T.N.T. – The New Theatre and having lectured at the American College in Paris. However, since coming to Australia he has worked principally in the areas of books and writing, and festivals and large-scale public events.
