Resources for Supervisors

There are many resources available for supervisors, including online guidebooks, publications, workshops and support networks. This page contains links to publications specifically designed to assist supervisors in research candidature management and effective supervision.

 

The PhD Handbook contains essential information on the responsibilities of supervisors and research policy, including intellectual property and academic integrity.

 

Supervisors can also download the Checklist for the Responsible Conduct of Research and a copy of the Research Supervision Guidelines (27 KB), which details a list of topics to discuss with newly enrolled research higher degree students.

 

The PhD Calendar is a new tool designed to assist supervisors and students to chart a course for the timely completion of a high quality PhD.

 

The Melbourne School of Graduate Research's 'In Detail' Series provides specific information on administrative procedures and requirements across candidature, including Greivance Procedures,thesis formatting and examination.

 

A range of resources for supervisors, research degree co-ordinators, supervision developers and students can be accessed from the fIRST website for research higher degree management. The site includes online activities, workshop guides and tools, bibliographies and links to further resources.

 

Supervisors are also encouraged to consult the University of Melbourne's Eleven Practices of Effective Postgraduate Supervisors. This guide offers practical advice on effective research supervision for both new and experienced graduate supervisors.
